Multiscale.Sim™, developed by CYBERNET, is a multi-scale analysis add-in tool for the Ansys® Workbench™ environment. They are offering back-to-back webinars this October.
Many materials with heterogeneous microstructures are used in Printed Circuit Boards (PCB). By controlling the microstructure of such composite materials, the properties can be created to match various design requirements. For example, the linear expansion coefficient of sealing resins can be controlled by mixing the appropriate amount of filler. This reduces thermal stress between neighboring materials and increases product life. However, due to the high degree of design freedom in this problem, it is not realistic to evaluate material properties solely on actual testing. This presentation introduces material property prediction techniques based on virtual material testing.
Composite materials have high specific strength and rigidity for helping reduce the weight of automotive structures, but due to fiber-based composite materials being anisotropic, stresses must be examined in advance. Parts must be carefully designed so fibers are oriented in the direction requiring the highest rigidity, while the expense of materials creates a need to reduce prototype iterations as much as possible.
An overview of the analysis workflow
This webinar introduces an analysis workflow to predict the material behavior of composites with high accuracy by observing their microstructures. The workflow involves an X-ray CT system by Shimadzu Corporation, image processing in Synopsys® Simpleware software, and numerical material testing using CYBERNET Multiscale.Sim.
